How to Play Rummy

Objective

Be the first player to reach the target score (100, 150, or 201 points) by having the lowest total score.

Gameplay

  • Each player is dealt 10 cards (7 cards if 4+ players)
  • Remaining cards form the draw pile, top card starts discard pile
  • On your turn: draw from draw pile or discard pile, then discard one card
  • Try to form sets (3+ cards of same rank) and runs (3+ consecutive cards of same suit)
  • When ready, you can "go out" by laying down all your cards

Scoring

  • Face cards (J, Q, K) = 10 points each
  • Aces = 1 point (or 15 points in some variations)
  • Number cards = Face value points
  • Winner of round gets 0 points
  • Other players sum points of cards left in hand
  • First to reach the cutoff loses (others win)

Strategy Tips

  • Hold onto low-value cards
  • Watch what opponents pick from discard pile
  • Try to form both sets and runs for flexibility
  • Don't wait too long to go out - points add up quickly!
