How to Play Rummy
Objective
Be the first player to reach the target score (100, 150, or 201 points) by having the lowest total score.
Gameplay
- Each player is dealt 10 cards (7 cards if 4+ players)
- Remaining cards form the draw pile, top card starts discard pile
- On your turn: draw from draw pile or discard pile, then discard one card
- Try to form sets (3+ cards of same rank) and runs (3+ consecutive cards of same suit)
- When ready, you can "go out" by laying down all your cards
Scoring
- Face cards (J, Q, K) = 10 points each
- Aces = 1 point (or 15 points in some variations)
- Number cards = Face value points
- Winner of round gets 0 points
- Other players sum points of cards left in hand
- First to reach the cutoff loses (others win)
Strategy Tips
- Hold onto low-value cards
- Watch what opponents pick from discard pile
- Try to form both sets and runs for flexibility
- Don't wait too long to go out - points add up quickly!
